Iced coffee in a tall glass

Watery coffee lacks body. The liquid is passing through too fast to pick up much of anything.

Common causes

These account for most thin cups.

  • Grind too coarse so water drains in seconds
  • Dose too small for the brewer
  • Ice melting into an already-brewed cup

Fixes

Grind finer, weigh your dose, and brew iced coffee directly onto the ice so dilution is planned.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a metal filter help body?+

Yes — metal filters let oils through, which gives a heavier mouthfeel.
